YAOUNDE, July 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a cholera outbreak in Cameroon's northern regions has risen to 93 from 48 confirmed on Wednesday, Cameroon's Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, said on Thursday.

Malachie in a statement said about 1,000 people have been diagnosed with the disease since late 2018. The North and Far North regions are the hardest hit.

The situation was "alarming," said Malachie on Monday. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that the disease could spread to Littoral and Center regions of the African country.

For many years, cholera has been a common occurrence in Cameroon's northern regions where floods during raining season are recurrent. Enditem
