ISLAMABAD, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reaffirmed the country's commitment to building peaceful, harmonious and united societies at both the national and international levels.

"At the national level, Pakistan remains committed to taking practical measures for the establishment of a peaceful, tolerant and cohesive society where every citizen, regardless of race, ethnicity or religion, can live with dignity," the premier said on the occasion of the International Day of Living Together in Peace.

He said that fostering a social environment that promotes peace is not only part of Pakistan's visionary heritage, but also a constitutional responsibility, adding that the country has taken several initiatives that lay the foundation for a just, inclusive and equitable society.

Sharif also called upon stakeholders to work together to build a Pakistan and a world where harmony and shared prosperity prevail over division and discord. ■
