BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Brunei stunned Thailand 2-1 in their second match at the 6th ASEAN Yourth Football Tournament here on Friday.

A late goal helped Brunei secure the win and the hope of surviving Group A which also contains defending champions Myanmar and Timor-Leste.

Myanmar beat Timor-Leste 2-0 on Friday, topping the group with 4 points, followed by Brunei with 3 points. They will meet on Sunday in the last round of the group stage.

A total of seven U-22 teams from the Southeast Asian region are competing for the trophy in the biennial tournament.

Group B witnesses Laos, Cambodia and Singapore. The top two finishers of each group advance to the semifinals.

The ASEAN youth football tournament was initiated by Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah back in 1997. The first tournament was won by Indonesia in 2002. Brunei beat rivals Indonesia 2-0 in the 2012 final, but conceded the crown to Myanmar in 2014.
